Tyreek Hill returns the punt to the Kansas City 43 and the Chiefs will start their drive trailing by six with 1:40 remaining.

The Chiefs prevent Pittsburgh from moving the chains after Roethlisberger throws an incomplete pass on third down. The Steelers will be forced to punt, giving the ball back to Kansas City with 1:59 to play and a chance to take the lead.

Former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who began the anthem protest in August 2016, is not expected to be among the group of players meeting with league officials.

Kaepernick said he wanted to draw attention to police brutality against people of color and other racial injustices across the country. He gained support from his peers, but remains unsigned since opting out of his contract in March. He filed a grievance against the NFL, alleging owners have colluded to keep him off a team.

Lockhart said Monday he “is not aware of any consideration” of Kaepernick’s grievance to be on Tuesday’s agenda.

That’s because of the excitement that hovers over the Warriors and the special run they’re embracing.

“I think because it’s just so free-flowing,” Green said. “I think the game of basketball kind of first grew in China in streetball. And [our style is] more streetball than you’d normally get in the NBA. So I think that’s why it resonates so much here. I think it also helps that Steph is kind of your everyday-sized guy. Where [fans] kind of get the mindset of, you could be that guy. So I think that also helps as well.”

President Donald Trump has called on NFL owners since last month to fire players who do not stand for the anthem, saying their protest “disrespects the flag” and the country.tigers_070

Marshawn Lynch Jersey was dancing on the sideline.

It was impossible to walk or drive around Las Vegas this week and not have that hashtag engrained in your mind. It was everywhere. On billboards, hotel exteriors and hand-written signs taped to fences. It has become a common hashtag for a community to rally around following adversity but Las Vegas isn’t your typical community as a tourist oasis for many.

Most people who pass through for the weekend view it as a lovable punchline, a place where you quote lines from “The Hangover” and “Swingers” and promise yourself you’ll never return — before you invariably do a few months later.

Here’s how a perfect storm of calamity would have to unfold for Embiid to earn any less than the full $146.5 million: Across each of the final four seasons of the extension, ending with the 2022-23 season, the 76ers could waive Embiid for a financial benefit if he’s lost because of a contractually agreed-upon injury that causes him to miss 25 or more regular-season games and if he plays fewer than 1,650 minutes, league sources said.

“I wouldn’t try to sum it up in a word; I wouldn’t try,” Del Rio told reporters. “We’re working hard at it. We’re close, but no cigar.”

It doesn’t even look as close as Del Rio makes it out to be. Amari Cooper (28 yards, five catches) and Jared Cook (14 yards, two catches) were again missing in action. Both of Carr’s interceptions were more the fault of the intended receivers — although, again, Carr’s timing was off. Lynch cooled off in the second half after an effective first half.

A 2-4 record, last place in the AFC West and the specter of a four-game deficit to the Chiefs in mid-October — none of these seemed possible going into the season, and assuredly were not after two weeks.

Now it’s possible that the team that started 2-0 is the one that couldn’t be believed, and the one that has played since is the real thintigers_009

Week 5 fantasy football inactives watch: Who’s in, and who’s out?

Posted on by

Wondering what you can expect from players who are dealing with injuries in Week 5? Injury expert Stephania Bell gives her thoughts on each notable player, including a trio of starting quarterbacks.

Green Bay’s offense is getting the job done with whoever as long Aaron Rodgers is at the controls. The defense has sprung further leaks because of injuries, but Dallas is sharing in that misery. This playoff rematch should resemble the playoff scoring outburst we saw in January, only with the Packers being more explosive this time with Jordy Nelson. Dak Prescott again will play well to keep up, but he can’t make up for the issues on other side of the ball.

Both teams can thank rookie first-round QBs for their good starts. The Chiefs are undefeated because Alex Smith is dealing at a whole new level, pushed by Patrick Mahomes. The Texans finally have a legitimate athletic passer of their own in Deshaun Watson. It should be a fast-paced game full of big plays, so it comes down which team has the trusted pass rush to take advantage of the other’s shoddy pass protection. Advantage J.J Watt and Jadeveon Clowney over Justin Houston.

Adams had suffered a concussion on a brutal hit to the head by Bears linebacker Danny Trevathan during Chicago and Green Bay’s Week 4 matchup, and there the receiver was 10 days later, throwing himself back into the violent fray. Adams suffered a concussion last year on another hit to the head by Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee and played four nights later against the Bears. Four.x (3)

The NFL needs to do more about it, too.

Posted on by

A lot more. Pro football will always be a dangerous place, and you didn’t need to watch what happened to Odell Beckham Jr. in the Meadowlands to remember that. But just as the sign in Green Bay’s locker room said, the brain is the body’s most vital organ. The league has to protect it at all costs.

Asked by ESPN.com if he favors a mandatory missed game for concussed players, Packers president Mark Murphy, once a Super Bowl-winning safety for Washington, said: “I think it has to be a medical decision. Just talking to the neurologist, each concussion is different. Players come back differently. I think it has to be a medical decision just like any other injury.”

Green Bay goes three-and-out and takes just 59 seconds off the game clock. The Cowboys will start their drive on their own 11 with a two-point lead and 10:37 remaining.

Field goal Dallas. The Cowboys drive to the Green Bay 25, but fail to score after an incompletion by Prescott on third down. Dan Bailey enters on fourth down and converts on a 43-yard field goal to put Dallas back in front, 24-22.

Touchdown Packers. On the first play of the fourth quarter, Green Bay takes the lead. Rodgers finds Jordy Nelson wide open in the end zone for a 10-yard score as the Packers move in front, 22-21.

He had just beaten the Dallas Cowboys with his second touchdown catch, this one in the back of the end zone in the final seconds of Sunday’s matchup, and Adams was giving reporters a clear-eyed account of the process. Aaron Rodgers had thrown him the same pass on the previous play, a pass that fell incomplete, and the receiver returned to the huddle and told the quarterback to run it again.x (11)

Dolphins aware of video of OL coach Chris Foerster snorting white powder

Posted on by

The Miami Dolphins said Sunday night that they are aware of a video that appears to show offensive line coach Chris Foerster snorting a white powder off a table before a meeting.

“We were just made aware of the video and will have no comment at this time,” the team said in a statement.

The Miami Herald reported, citing league sources, that there will be an investigation into the video, and Foerster’s future with the team is expected to be determined as early as Monday.

I wouldn’t bet on it. Jones’ playing time is not likely to increase with Matthews out — expect Andre Holmes to fill Matthews’ role — so it’s more a matter of whether Tyrod Taylor is comfortable throwing to Jones. The rookie has struggled to finish routes and make clean catches so far, resulting in a team-low 3.4 percent rate of catches per route run. Taylor said this week he’ll continue pressing forward with Jones and keep his confidence in the second-round pick. But when the pressure mounts in games, I would expect Taylor to lean on Charles Clay and LeSean McCoy, who have proven more reliable pass-catchers. “I’m growing, I’m learning, and I know that,” Jones said this week. — Mike Rodak

Ajayi is fine. It’s the other players around him, particularly the offensive line, that has failed him most of this season. Teams are stacking the box and there are fewer holes for Ajayi. According to Pro Football Focus, 44 of his 46 yards last week were after contact. He is getting hit a lot at or near the line of scrimmage, which is much different compared to last season. — James Walker

Back injury to sideline Tyler Eifert for multiple weeks

Posted on by

Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert is expected to miss multiple weeks while recovering from his back injury, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Eifert does not need back surgery at this time, the source said.

On Thursday, coach Anthony Lynn chose to keep Gordon out of practice because of his knee. Fully padded, he rode a stationary bike on the side at the start of practice. However, Gordon was a limited participant in practice on Friday and was listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Gordon missed the final three games of the regular season last year with knee and hip issues. During his rookie season, he also missed the final two games with a left knee injury that required microfracture surgery in the offseason.

After getting checked out by the Chargers’ medical staff, Gordon returned to the field midway through the third quarter.

Six-team playoffs in Weeks 14-16: In this format, the top two teams earn a bye in Week 14, while the next four teams battle in a pair of wild-card matchups. In Week 15, the two Week 14 winners face the top two seeds, who were on a Week 14 bye, in the semifinals. Those winners then face off in the Week 16 championship game. This format rewards the teams that had the best regular season, but it also allows in two extra teams and gives squads that get hot late in the season to make a run to the title — just like we often see in the NFL.

Offline: There really is no doubt that the most fun you can have is to get your friends, family or co-workers together in a room and do a live draft. You can’t beat the laughs, trash talk and the feeling of being a general manager making selections at the NFL draft. If you go that route, then choose Offline draft, enter the rosters following the draft and play your season out on ESPN.a (3)

Colts reportedly turn to Jacoby Brissett at QB, benching Scott Tolzein

Posted on by

The Colts are making a change after their Week 1 debacle and plan to start Jacoby Brissett at quarterback this weekend against the Cardinals, NFL Media reported Friday.

At a news conference later in the day, Colts coach Chuck Pagano declined to say who would start at QB on Sunday, but all expectations are the team will make a change.

Indianapolis gave Scott Tolzein the nod in the opener and watched him implode, completing 9 of 18 passes with two interceptions (both returned for touchdowns) before pulling the plug and going to Brissett in the fourth quarter of a 46-9 loss to the Rams.

Kelley, who is officially listed as questionable with a rib cartilage injury, was in the midst of arguably his best day with the Redskins, gaining 78 yards on 12 carries on Sunday, before leaving in the second quarter with the injury.

“When it happened, on a scale of 1 to 10, it was 10. Right now, it’s probably like a 5,” Kelley said Wednesday. “At the game, it was hard to breathe and my back started locking up. But right now, I’m pretty good.”

Reed injured his ribs and experienced an SC joint ligament sprain in his shoulder against the Rams, and he was limited in the second half. He has missed 20 games in his first four NFL seasons combined.

If Reed can’t play, the Redskins also have veterans Vernon Davis and Niles Paul and rookie Jeremy Sprinkle.

How to bet Oakland-Washington

Posted on by

ESPN Chalk’s NFL Vegas experts (Phil Steele and Erin Rynning) are here to provide analysis and best bets for Sunday night’s tilt between the Oakland Raiders and Washington Redskins. John Parolin of ESPN Stats & Information breaks down the best prop bet.

Andrew Luck, QB, Indianapolis Colts, right shoulder: Nothing new to report here, as Luck remains out of practice. Until he returns to practice, there’s literally nothing to see. Jacoby Brissett will be the starter again.

Will Fuller V, WR, Houston Texans, shoulder: Although Fuller remains sidelined for games, he is increasing his practice activity. Fuller was involved in limited practices daily and is gradually approaching a return from the broken collarbone he suffered during the preseason.

Corey Davis, WR, Tennessee Titans, hamstring: Davis dealt with a hamstring injury in the preseason and aggravated it during the Week 2 game. He was able to return to the field in the fourth quarter, but his production was limited. Davis did not practice all week and will sit out this week’s contest against the Seahawks.

Timmons was made inactive for the game against the Chargers, snapping his streak of 101 consecutive NFL starts, and he was suspended indefinitely last week.

Dolphins coach Adam Gase hasn’t discussed details of Timmons’ situation with the media, besides saying that the linebacker was dealing with a personal matter that affected the team.

Terrible offensive lines ruined the first week of the NFL season

Posted on by

When an offense performs poorly, it’s usually the quarterback or the other skill players who take the blame. But the offensive line’s performance is key to a team’s success, and we saw catastrophic results of bad line play around the league in Week 1.

We also saw the opposite of that this week too, with improved lines for the Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Rams helping to propel Sam Bradford and Jared Goff’s quarterback ratings to No. 2 and No. 3 in the league in Week 1.

Sarkisian shouldn’t be criticized for staying committed to the run. How can you get away from a prolific running back duo in a close game? Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman can change a game in an instant flash. What Sarkisian will need to revise is his philosophy for the passing game. It was far too conservative and unimaginative last Sunday. This offense is known for producing big plays and creating magic off play action. Neither of those things came to fruition. Only converting one out of three red zone opportunities didn’t help his cause either. He appears to have the balance down for this offense to remain efficient. Now it’s time to loosen up the playbook and get more creative with an abundance of playmakers.

Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn figures that Takk will be a huge addition to the Falcons’ nickel package. Having a consistent pass rusher on the edge will come in handy when the Falcons play teams with huge pass games like the Packers.

Takk McKinley has come a long way from where he started, and he’s making a name for himself in the NFL. Watch Takk this season.

I’m going with Bill O’Brien’s decision to bench Tom Savage at halftime of the first game of the regular season.

Posted on by

Without getting into the merits of the decision, I was shocked O’Brien did it, only because O’Brien expressed regret about having a similarly quick hook in the past with Brian Hoyer. Even if Savage continued to struggle, I did not expect a change at QB midway through the first game of the 2017 season.

If you told me right after it was announced that Andrew Luck had shoulder surgery that he would enter the season without any meaningful timetable for his return, I wouldn’t have believed it. If you told me that Stephen Morris would outplay Scott Tolzien for a second straight preseason only to be cut, I wouldn’t have believed it. If you told me that the Colts would trade former first-round wide receiver Phillip Dorsett to the New England Patriots for a quarterback, I wouldn’t have believed it.

Nothing is funnier than seeing jilted, arrogant Patriots fans on Twitter saying nothing to anyone. It’s like they disappeared for a few hours.

And the Lions’ sixth-round pick from 2016 went out against the Cardinals and had himself a game. He finished with Detroit’s only sack of the game, added an additional four hurries, and nearly had an interception.

Washington plays at the Rams on Sunday. Gruden, the Washington head coach, battles his offensive coordinator from last season, McVay, now the Rams head coach.

These men share a close relationship. McVay views Gruden as a mentor. McVay’s team scored 46 points last week. Gruden’s, 17. McVay is 1-0. Gruden is 0-1.
