Miko Grimes claims Raiders’ OL let Derek Carr get hit, injured

Posted on by

Derek Carr suffered a back injury in Week 4 this season and missed one game. That injury was a message from the Raiders’ offensive line, according to Miko Grimes.

Grimes, the wife of Buccaneers cornerback Brent Grimes, is known to be vocal. Appearing on “The Breaktfast Club” on Tuesday morning, Grimes said Oakland’s offensive line was upset with Carr and purposefully allowed him to get hit.

“(Carr) was against (the offensive line) protesting. And they had a fight in the locker room before that Monday night game with the Redskins. They were fighting in the locker room, and that’s the only all-black offensive line in the NFL is the Raiders.

Jones has pleaded not guilty to charges of speeding, driving without a valid license and operating a vehicle with a controlled substance in his system after he was pulled over on Oct. 1.

Jones, 22, was initially tabbed for speeding 79 mph in a 55 mph zone in Brown County in Wisconsin at 11:37 a.m., according to the Journal Sentinel. The case had gone unreported until now.

When the state trooper approached Jones on the driver’s side, he noted the smell of marijuana coming from the car. According to the police report, Jones admitted to smoking marijuana after breakfast three hours earlier.

There was no drug paraphernalia or other substances in the car.

The Marlins would have to go well over budget to add sorely needed impact starting pitching, and doing so wouldn’t necessarily improve the long-term prospectus. The attempted teardown that seems to be coming makes sense, but it’s still a rough go for Marlins fans.

About 430 ballots are being sent to eligible voters from the BBWAA, and a player must receive at least 75 percent for election. Ballots are due by Dec. 31 and results will be announced Jan. 24. The BBWAA voted last December to have ballots of individual voters made public for the first time, but the proposal was rejected by the Hall of Fame’s board of directors.

Voters, who must have been members of the BBWAA for 10 consecutive years, had been free to announce their votes on their own, and about half chose to do so in recent years.

“We’ve played well offensively, and at times, we’ve really been humming in the offensive zone,” Predators coach Peter Laviolette said. “We’ve done some good things.”

Pekka Rinne (11-3-2, 2.48, .921) figures to get the call in net for Nashville. Rinne made 32 saves Monday night to garner his sixth win in seven matches.

Pro Football Focus graded Joyner behind only Donald among Rams defenders on Sunday, and he should be in line for an eight-figure-a-year contract with the way he has played this season. Joyner turns 27 next week and has been a key part of Wade Phillips’ upgraded defense.

Tyler Johnson scored 16 points for Miami, which saw what was an 18-point lead cut to one in the final moments.

Kyrie Irving scored 23 points for Boston. Jayson Tatum added 18, and Jaylen Brown and Marcus Morris each had 14.

The Celtics got down by 18 in the first half, which has been a very comfortable place for Boston so far this season. Boston had overcome 18-point deficits against Oklahoma City and Charlotte, a 17-point hole against Golden State, a 16-pointer against Atlanta and rallied from 13 down to win in Dallas this week.

Angry Giants vow to ID ‘cowards,’ ‘rat’ who anonymously ripped Ben McAdoo

Posted on by

The reeling Giants are 1-7, their season in a tailspin, but they’re now on a mission: to learn which of their two teammates anonymously ripped coach Ben McAdoo.

In a story earlier this week, ESPN’s Josina Anderson reported that an unidentified Giants player told her that “McAdoo has lost this team,” while another said, “Guys are giving up on the season and nothing’s being done. Guys just don’t care anymore.”

Like his teammates, safety Landon Collins doesn’t know who made those critical remarks, but vowed, “We’ll figure it out sooner or later.”

“I’m curious who it is,” Collins said. “As a team, we know we still are behind Coach McAdoo and still are giving our full effort. For a guy to say that бн We just want him to come forward and be a man. That’s all.”

Despite the Giants’ poor record and reported dissension, ESPN reported Thursday the team has no plans to make any coaching or front-office changes until after the season.

Wentz in the video game has risen significantly since the season began. By moving from 79 Overall to 87 Overall, Wentz now ranks as the seventh-best quarterback in the league.

Two defensive backs have seen the most significant increases. Tyvon Branch of the Cardinals (+12 to 89 Overall) and Marshon Lattimore of the Saints (+11 to 87 Overall) are two of the most improved players so far this season considering where initial expectations were set.

Like Lattimore, Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt is another rookie who has flashed superstar potential. He has gone up nine points to 84 Overall, having peaked at 86 Overall following Week 7.

Last year’s league MVP Matt Ryan is among the players who have disappointed the most in 2017, according to the game. The Falcons quarterback began the season rated 96 Overall but has fallen to 91 Overall.broncos_121-500x500

Inside the Arena for the Golden Knights’ Emotional Home Opener

Posted on by

The night started with 58 seconds of silence. It ended with the hockey players wearing the gray sweaters skating around the center circle, sticks raised to acknowledge the home crowd, as “Viva Las Vegas” blared on the T-Mobile Arena speakers.

Paul Richardson, WR, Seattle Seahawks (10.3 percent): What Richardson brings to the table is incredible speed … and more. He is modest in size (6-foot, 183 pounds) but terrific in competitive catch situations. Again, with so many teams on a bye in Week 9, Richardson is a flex option if you are chasing a touchdown or a long reception. He has five touchdowns this season and a 37-yard catch in three games.

Reggie Jackson scored 18 of his 22 points in the first half and Bradley made five 3-pointers for the Pistons, who impressed on the second night of a SoCal-NorCal back-to-back.

Detroit beat the Clippers 95-87 on Saturday to hand Los Angeles its first defeat and leaving no more undefeated NBA teams.

With 11 blocks, Golden State has gone seven straight games with at least seven blocks.

“It comes down to the teams, ultimately, and at this time teams don’t want to sign myself or Kap. That’s just the way it is. It doesn’t mean you stop working or you give up.”

The Detroit Pistons, who are tied atop the East at 5-2, having started a three-game West Coast swing with victories over the LA Clippers and Golden State Warriors. The Pistons are getting the kind of playmaking from Reggie Jackson that he was never able to offer last season, and their bench has been surprisingly effective, improbably led by Anthony Tolliver.flames_013

Senior forward Stephanie Mavunga had 28 points and 23 rebounds.

She averaged a double-double last season (11.4 PPG, 10.8 RPG) but missed 13 games due to injuries. McGuff said she’s healthy.

“She has had an unbelievable offseason,” he said. “She’s gotten in the best shape of her life. She’s really taken her physical stature to another level. I’ve actually never been around a player, in over 20 years coaching, who’s done more in terms of her diet to change her body. She’s really getting up and down the floor and doing a wonderful job right now.”

Green argued that when Beal wrapped him up, he had no choice but to attempt to free himself. And thus, he believes he should not have been ejected and should not have been fined.

“And out in the world, if somebody hits you, you’re allowed to defend yourself. It’s called self-defense,” he said. “If somebody shoots you, you’re allowed to shoot back. Self-defense. I got hit and didn’t even hit back and got fined.

“And then for him to get fined only $50,000 and I get fined $25,000. Oubre came in throwing punches and he gets fined less than me? That just don’t add up. I know [the league is] not the biggest fan of me, and that’s fine, but don’t be so obvious that you’re not the biggest fan of me. That’s just too obvious. So, I think at the end of the day, they’re going to make out who they want to make out to be the bad guy. That’s cool, but be fair across the board.”

“Many players have been deeply troubled by the disturbing comments made by Texans’ owner Bob McNair,” the Players Coalition said in a statement. “It is ironic that such a quote would emerge in the midst of an ongoing struggle to highlight injustices suffered by people of color, including our nation’s deeply flawed approach to criminal justice and inhumane treatment of imprisoned people.”

The Kings appear to be bringing offense back, as they have scored 38 goals in their first 11 games.

The departures of Monte Morris and three other starters leave Iowa State without an elite point guard and the nucleus of the program from last season. When Texas recruit Darius McNeill decommitted from the squad in June, Iowa State had just 10 scholarship players.

As a rule, fantasy players should pick up any winger assigned to John Tavares’ line. Bailey has recently drawn that assignment, which sets him up with a good chance for a hot streak. Coming off a 56-point season and having already produced 11 points in 11 games, it appears Bailey’s uptick in production is no fluke.

Kempe has produced six of those, despite playing fewer than 12 minutes per game. However, he’s topped 15 minutes twice in his last three games, which might indicate that he’s earning more chances, especially with scorer Jeff Carter injured.

After Garoppolo’s first career start in Week 1 versus the Arizona Cardinals, I wrote a piece on how the Patriots’ offense didn’t change a bit without Tom Brady in the lineup.

I’d take his recent surge in scoring as a window to market George in points leagues, as I just don’t see him matching the early-round price tag from drafts in this format. For some context, George is hovering in the 60s in fantasy points in standard points leagues right now as a direct peer of players like James Johnson and DeMarre Carroll. I’d honestly rather have Dwight Howard than George in this format for the rest of the way, signaling just how favorable points leagues are for rostering productive rebounders.

Given how friendly this format is for the double-double producers around the league, I suggest you bookmark this resource for rebounding opportunities as a quick resource for identifying value. canadiens_003_2966016334b08904-180x180

Falcons beat Jets, break three-game losing streak

Posted on by

The Atlanta Falcons needed a bounce-back game after three straight tough losses, and on Sunday, they got exactly that, beating the New York Jets, 25-20.

Here’s what we learned from the afternoon:

1. The Falcons ended their three-game losing streak, but they were far from perfect. Matt Ryan lost three fumbles on the snap exchange, accounting for two turnovers and a failed 2-point conversion attempt. Austin Hooper dropped a sure touchdown. They had just two touchdowns in six red-zone trips. A punt return touchdown was wiped out by penalty. And yet, it was still good enough to beat the Jets, who do just enough to lose every week. It’s the sign of a truly good bad team.

2. For the third consecutive game, the Jets scored a touchdown on their opening drive. They’re also 0-3 in those games, so go figure. This time, an eight-play, 75-yard drive ended with a 20-yard strike from Josh McCown to tight end Eric Tomlinson. Credit goes to Jets offensive coordinator Johnnie Morton, who is obviously doing a nice job scouting these opposing defenses and has had a nice season overall.

When Gurriel came to the plate to lead off the second inning, fans got on him again. Dodgers starter Rich Hill even stepped off the mound for a moment as the jeers grew louder and later acknowledged that it was a “silent gesture” to condemn Gurriel’s insult.

The Dodgers won 3-1 to send the series to a decisive Game 7 on Wednesday at Dodger Stadium. Before Tuesday’s game, Darvish, who is scheduled to start Game 7, maintained his stance of forgiveness toward Gurriel.

“I wasn’t that frustrated at that point when I saw it the first time,” Darvish said through an interpreter. “And then after the game like he contacted us and said, ‘Hey, I’d like to meet you and apologize,’ but I told him, ‘Hey, you don’t have to do that, because you made a comment and, like, I’m not that mad.’ So like I really didn’t care that much about that.”

Best bets on Week 8 NFL games

Posted on by

It’s Week 8 of the NFL season, and ESPN Chalk’s Vegas experts (Phil Steele, Warren Sharp, Erin Rynning and Mike Clay) have you covered with comprehensive betting previews for all of Sunday’s games (except the Sunday nighter).

Sunday was the receiver’s best game of the season: Hopkins turned his 11 targets into eight catches and 224 yards, including a 72-yard touchdown that saw him run through most of the Seahawks’ defense on a screen, breaking Kam Chancellor’s ankles along the way.

The players’ request is in response to McNair saying during the owners meetings earlier this month, “We can’t have the inmates running the prison,” regarding player protests during the national anthem. The goal of Monday’s meeting would be to discuss “immediate concerns before additional progress can be made” around sports’ role in social and political issues facing the country.

McNair, however, met with the Texans players Saturday morning, and while many perceived his comments to be racist, he says he was not even referring to players. The inmates analogy was made in reference to the league office’s relationship with the NFL’s 32 team owners, he said.

“Many players have been deeply troubled by the disturbing comments made by Texans’ owner Bob McNair,” the letter of invitation said. “It is ironic that such a quote would emerge in the midst of an ongoing struggle to highlight injustices suffered by people of color, including our nation’s deeply flawed approach to criminal justice and inhumane treatment of imprisoned people. The events that have unfolded the past several days have upset and angered many players and continues to demonstrate the lack of seriousness that some league officials are approaching our discussions. It is this lack of earnest words and actions that provoke and reinforce the continuation of our protest.”

Fantasy football TE depth chart

Posted on by

The tight end depth chart below breaks down all 32 NFL teams in terms of current fantasy value for the 2017 season. This is a file I’ve done in the past — previously known as the “Tamme Index” — and it’s important to note it does not necessarily reflect a player’s position on his NFL team’s depth chart.

The trade caught Jets coach Todd Bowles by surprise. Speaking to reporters at 3:50 p.m. ET, he said he didn’t anticipate any trades before the 4 p.m. deadline. A few minutes later, word of the Robinson trade leaked on Twitter. Bowles, still at the podium, said it was news to him.

“I think [Robinson] fits any defense,” said wide receiver Jeremy Kerley, who played for the 49ers last season. “He’s a ballplayer, so he can adjust, he can adapt. We’ll definitely get somebody in the locker room who is a wildfire. When I say wildfire, he brings a lot of energy.”

Miller dislocated his knee in the third quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Saints, and surgeons at University Medical Center New Orleans credited the Bears medical staff for promptly diagnosing the artery problem and rushing him to the hospital.

Fox told reporters Monday afternoon that he had spoken to Miller on the phone a few hours earlier and that the tight end “was in good spirits.”

“Right now the report is they’re obviously going to take a while for it to make sure it remains good, but he’s got good pulse in his lower leg as well as he has good feeling. His foot is warm, which is a good sign,” Fox said. “Not that he’s out of the woods by any stretch, but it’s as good as could be expected at this point.”

Asked whether Miller was still in jeopardy of losing part of his leg, Fox said: “I don’t want to go down that path. I’m not a doctor, I don’t know. I’m not right there, but I think they feel good about where he is right now as it relates to that.”

The Ravens are the only team with an offense that ranks in the bottom five in yards and offensive points per game.

Posted on by

Baltimore also failed to score an offensive touchdown in Sunday’s 27-24 overtime loss to the Chicago Bears.

Mornhinweg, who was promoted to coordinator about this time last year, is the playcaller for an offense that ranks 29th in yards per game (289.2) and 30th in offensive points per game (15.3).

“And it’s like, well, seven years ago I had negative $45 in my account. What was I then? You know what I mean? I was still a black guy, I was still a kid from the hood, and we will never forget those moments.”

Sherman, who grew up in Compton, California, has been one of the NFL’s highest-paid cornerbacks since signing a four-year, $56 million extension in 2014. Baldwin, who is from Gulf Breeze, Florida, signed a four-year, $46 million extension last year to become one of the league’s top-paid wide receivers.

The Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive end already gave up his first six game checks to provide two scholarships for students in Charlottesville, Virginia. Now, he’s using the next 10 to launch the Pledge 10 for Tomorrow campaign.

After a false start followed by a two-yard run, Minnesota had 2nd and 13 from the 35 with under five minutes to play. Peterson took a handoff running left, and once again, the Minnesota line along with fullback Jim Kleinsasser won the line of scrimmage.

Kleinsasser moved Briggs out of the path of the run. Tommie Harris burst into the backfield with his trademark first step and was still a step slow. Anthony Adams and then Hillenmeyer could merely dive in his direction. At the 25, Peterson had one man to beat: Danieal Manning, who was at the 20 and seemingly had the angle.

Now, what’s funny about what happened next is that it turned out to be one of the best possible tactics one could take against Peterson. Because Peterson had a weakness. He fumbled.
